A program gets recognized as malware by Windows Defender in a native Windows OS, but DOESN’T get recognized (or gets identified as a different KIND of malware) in a VIRTUAL MACHINE running the exact same Windows OS. What gives? How does this work?

Even manually selecting the file and “Scan with Windows Defender” doesn’t bring up the same results in the virtual machine as it does in the host OS.
