I am looking for some advice from those that hire and how they value degree/certifications/experience. I am currently about 10 years into my IT career and 8 of those have been in cyber. I have my CISSP and a few other IT/Security related certifications as well. What I do not have is my bachelors, I have been tackling courses between certifications and Job/life responsibilities.
My main question here is, since I already have relevant certifications in security and experience, how valuable is an actual cybersecurity Degree? I have talked to my consoler who has provided me a few options to shorten the amount of courses/time to a degree. The shortest path currently is a “General Studies” degree.
I do see an eventual move from my current organization, I understand that not having the bachelors is what would likely hold me back from a possible interview. From those that hire, what is your perspective on this? Does a cybersecurity degree really do that much for me with my certs/experience or should i just get the general studies bachelors for the checkbox.
Thank you for any input!
