So I’ve recently been moved to a team where we’re going to create a new cybersecurity program for our company. Previous program was pretty much scan endpoints and fix. I’ve got some experience with cybersecurity, but not at the level of designing an entire program (I have a more technical skill set). Any advice on how to make sure this doesn’t turn into a glorified endpoint scanning department?

Step 1: Pick a framework: NIST 800-171, CIS, NIST CSF, ISO, etc.

Step 2: Determine if there are other criteria that need to be met- HIPAA, PCI, etc.

Step 3: Conduct a risk assessment and a BIA.

Step 4: Begin risk reduction and start working to meet the controls in your chosen framework.
