Are RGB controllers inside computers a potential security risk?

Some of them seem to be controlled using phone apps (which means it is an IoT device) or from a computer program, and I think they’re directly connected to the motherboard for power and data transfer to get new information on lighting settings,

These things can almost certainly get hacked or compromised, and since it is connected to the rest of the computer I imagine it would not be good, could it potentially move malware to the motherboard?

Are there other risks? Is this something to worry about?

Should the controller be removed from the computer? RGB is not important to me.

Thanks
