AVG Free good enough?

Hey all,

General question. Is sticking with a free AV software good enough? I currently use AVG and have for years. But I’ve seen a few articles in recent months about how much more sophisticated online attacks have become. I don’t typically go to sketchy sites or anything else. I use my computer for work stuff, streaming, general stuff, but also for banking et al.

So in general, do you all find a free program like AVG is sufficient? Or is it worth upgrading to a paid service?

If so, what service(s) do you recommend, and what specific types of protection to look for?

Also, would prefer something that doesn’t run too heavy on the CPU because I also use my comp for music production and that takes a good bit of energy as it is. I find even AVG can slow that down sometimes, and I will go on airplane mode and temporarily shut off AVG if needed.

If free AV is good enough, are there any add-ons you might do? Ie- a monthly second scan with Malware Bytes or something of that kind?

For clarity, I have a PC laptop running windows 8.1.

Common sense before else, an antivirus is an second line of defence, incase the human brain fails to recognize danger, know the common attack vectors and even the inbuilt protection should be suffice

Also, do you have the required specifications to upgrade to Windows 10?
