I don’t have a role in Security, but I work within a small-med sized business in a small IT team.

We have DarkTrace running within our network, apart from being incredibly over whelmed with the GUI of DarkTrace, I’m able to navigate and investigate basic functions fine. One of the more common alerts I see, is clients connecting to external IP’s which gets flagged as an anomaly. A more recent example is an external IP with a POST No Get HTTP connection.

I can see the IP of the server and where it’s based, and I would assume it’s a M365 related service (our environment is mostly cloud based, M365) that this client is just bouncing off, I usually just use centralops.net to get an IP’s Whois information.

Apart from this, is there any other basic steps I can take to investigate an external IP our clients are connecting to from our network?
