Career Advice

Seeking some advice regarding my future.

I’m 21, finishing up my senior year of college. I’m getting 2 degrees, “Information Technology & Systems” as well as “Cybersecurity”.

I did an internship last summer with a company and worked with their Cybersecurity manager. It went really well. This was my first experience working a job related to my fields of study.

A few months ago they offered me a full-time job, starting this summer, as an “IT Support Administrator”. Their offer was $65,000 with some possible performance bonuses. I was really excited and discussed with my family. I accepted the job shortly after.

The problem arises when I realized that my colleagues from school are pursuing strictly Cybersecurity roles. After speaking to my friends and seeing the jobs they were applying to, all of the listings were jobs with salaries in the $85-95k range.

This is a drastic increase from what I accepted. I’ve begun questioning wether or not I made a mistake by not applying to other jobs instead of immediately accepting their offer. Am I making a mistake by not using my Cybersecurity degree?
