I currently have three option available to begin my career in CyberSecurity
1) Just get certs like Security+, CYSA+, Etc… and enter I guess helpdesk or SOC analyst position.
2) Get an Associate’s Degree in CyberSecurity at a local Community College for free and get certs on top of the degree.
3) Go to my local university (URI) and get a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science with a minor in Cyber Security.
Not really sure which one is the best path. I see a lot of people saying a 4-year degree is kind of a waste with Cyber Security and I shouldn’t take on the cost of a 4-year university when I can go an easier route. I also am not super fond of doing a ton of advanced mathematics for a CS degree, but I will if it’s necessary. I know skills like networking play a huge role in InfoSec, but I am just looking for a bit of guidance on a streamlined path. I would like to get into the field as quickly as possible but also be an asset to an employer. Thank you for any advice.
