I left military after eleven years, and last half of it was mostly sysadmin roles. I did all core services like networking, virtualization, storage, databases, DNS, Active Directory, web hosting, email services, file sharing, and basic security like firewall, IPS, endpoint security, logging and monitoring, stuff.
After some time, I became the leader of the IT team, being the senior. Lack of manning hit, and I became the Chief Information Security Officer, although it’s against the separation of duties.
Now, leaving the army, I also moved to another country. I started my masters in cybersecurity in this school that I know they are good. After years of sysadmin, management and limited experience of security, I want a career in cybersecurity.
I do not like the titles coming from the certifications. But I have several good trainings and certifications, too.
But now, I fail to find a job here. Since I don’t get any feedback, I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I don’t apply for senior positions, but only junior and some middle level listings. After many rejected applications and some interviews, I lost my motivation. After two months of searching, I began to apply for help desk roles just to have a job. I feel like I am an impostor.
Do you have any suggestions for this kind of situation?
