I have an external HDD that I want to encrypt but I have a few questions:
1. *BitLocker is an encryption feature built into computers running* ***Windows 10 Pro****—if you’re running* ***Windows 10 Home*** *you will not be able to use BitLocker.*
I have a Windows 10 Pro PC, but say after encrypting my HDD, and I plug it into a computer with Windows 10 Home. Will I be able to read my data? What about writing? If writing is possible, are the written data encrypted?
2. When turning on BitLocker, I’m given the choice to either encrypt used disk space only or the entire drive. With 500GB on a 4TB drive, how long would the 2nd option take? Or should I copy the data elsewhere and then reformat the drive for the 1st option?
3. [https://i.imgur.com/1P7UQ4t.png](https://i.imgur.com/1P7UQ4t.png) // It says that for option 1 “BitLocker automatically encrypts new data”. Does that mean it won’t do that for option 2 since everything is already encrypted?
