Considering bootcamps…

So my goal is to get Security + Cert

My background in IT: I did CISCO academy many years ago, failed the CCNA test. Largely because I was a teenager and at the end didn’t take it seriously. This was over 10+ years ago.

I also took another class that helped me earn my CompTIA in A+ in Hardware and OS.

I’m looking to enroll into a BootCamp to earn my Security + I would like a BootCamp that’s going prepare me for the exam, however I live in Korea. A lot of the bootcamps I’ve been seeing are regular classroom times for stateside classes. So remote learning really is the only option.

I found two that I think I like they are:

* very affordable, but schedules don’t work for me
* doesn’t seem to have a schedule and is remote learning

So, looking for people advice. I am currently in college with a computer science major (still very early only second semester) and I have three individuals who are prepared to make me job offers if I can come in with Security A+ so I want to go to the certificate pass to get into the career field fast, and continue my college as a side thing.

Is there a reason you want a structured boot camp vs self learning?

A lot of people tend to think going through Prof Messer YouTube videos and dions exams on udemy are enough to pass. I half ass did that route with a good amount of background and passed it.

May not be for everyone but it is possible if you apply yourself.

I don’t like bootcamps and advise agaisnt them. For bigger certs like the CISSP or CISM….maybe….but a lot are still sketchy. One of your bootcamps is straight from CompTia. Obviously not questionable in terms of learning content, but geez that price is more than ten times the actual exam.

For the Sec+ though? Read the Sec+ textbook by McCraw Hill, do the quiz after each chapter and understand your wrong answers, and schedule the $300 exam. It’s not a very hard cert, nor is a “major” cert that you need to consider spending $1200-$4000 on.
