I’m learning the basics of IDS and IPS in a cybersecurity class, and the question crossed my mind.

From what I understand, an IPS is the “middle man” between the user device and the default gateway. But, I was thinking- on a home network, when a user connects a printer between the device and the gateway, could it technically act as some sort of IPS?

    No. Intrusion Prevention System. Printers don’t prevent anything.

    Printers aren’t Intrusion Detections Systems either.
