Cybersecurity Meetup’s By Yourself?

Hello,

I am wondering if it is common for people to attend meetups by themselves? I’ve been in the field for about 2 years and have always wanted to attend a meetup but a lot of my friends aren’t interested in Cyber and at work I am kind of isolated in my department with my team being over seas.

Ive watched a lot of webinars and talks from bsides, hackfest, defcon, and several other major meetups and think it would be an awesome experience live.

Thoughts? Are there others out there that don’t really have a lot of friends into Cyber so don’t go to meetups? Thanks in advance.

I’ve never been to a meetup, but just do it. Better to go alone than not at all.

You could also look into joining a local cyber security professional organization that meets regularly. A couple in my mind are ISACA and ISSA. Not sure where you’re located but they may have a chapter…
