Do Stale or Inaccurate DNS Entries Affect Security?

I work in an enterprise environment supporting around 1200 associates. I have been employed here for over three years and since I have started we have had issues with DNS records for client hostnames and IPs not matching, making it difficult to determine which computers we remote into on occasion.

In terms of CyberSecurity, how big of deal are stale DNS records? Do they affect your ability to analyze logs, or does the SIEM have a more detailed way of determining what logs are from which machines?

Stale DNS records do indeed present a risk.

SecurityTrails explains it much better than I can in posts [here](https://securitytrails.com/blog/domain-security-part-03-stale-dns-records) and [here](https://securitytrails.com/blog/risks-of-modern-free-ssl-certificates-and-stale-dns-records).
