Do the heads of network/cyber security get fired after a major breach?

Share any personal anecdotes or situations you may have heard of. Also, do you think the head of network/cyber security at Colonial Pipelines should or will get fired?



Always assume a “reduction in Head Count” occurs after a MAJOR breach like this.

That is what I told my wife when I got into this line of work. Even if the individual had nothing to do with the negative situation…a scape goat typically happens.


It all depends on the company and the situation. If it’s a company that is well aware they’re not fully protected and netops has informed them of it, it’s not their fault really is it? Now, of course that doesn’t mean a shitty company won’t use them as an internal scapegoat and throw them under the bus.
