Does cyber(in)security mean reverting to older tradecraft?

I’ll never crack quantum encryption. But I don’t need to. I just need a copy of the printout you left on the coffee table at home. I can’t easily read your encrypted hard disk drive. But I don’t need to. I need you to believe you’re compromised and act accordingly. And I blackmail you. Let’s discuss, please.

Cybersecurity invokes the safeguards that protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic data. Your hypothetical example has nothing to do with cybersecurity – it’s just non-cybersecurity social engineering.

There’s information security, then there’s digital information security. Digital information is a subset of information in general. When we talk about cybersecurity, it generally means securing digital information and the systems that store it, transfer it, and process it. It does not include other kinds of information such as printouts and paper files.
