Does reddit’s one-to-one chat leak IP?

So I work as a software engineer, but am not much into security, so please bare with me.

From what I understand, a lot of messaging services use peer to peer connection to enable faster communication. The unfortunate side effect is that this requires the sharing of your IP with the person you intend to communicate with. Does this also apply to reddit’s one to one chat?

Hey there, OP! Just wanted to let you know that, unless you want
us all to get naked with you (or the pun is intentional), you probably meant
to say **bear with me** rather than **bare with me**.

“Bear” means “to
tolerate”, whereas “bare” means “naked”.
