Exactly how much of computer programming is involved in Cyber Security?

Hello, I am a Computer Science student who’s fallen in love with programming, and even tho I am still not the best at it, I absolutely love it. Cyber Security also peeked my interest, but from doing a couple of quick google searches I didn’t know how much of actual programming is involved. The sites I came across were of articles encouraging people who don’t like programming to still pursue a career in Cyber Security so that’s why I didn’t find a clear answer.

I know it’s a broad field, so I hope there are some positions that require a lot of programming. I’m torn between software development and Cyber Security, so can somebody give me a clear answer here to help me choose my career path.

Cyber security is a huge field.

One tiny part of that field is secure coding. Another part is creating software or applications for security use. Or reverse engineering malware.

Those parts (and others like them) take a bunch of coding knowledge.

But other parts, like compliance or forensics or risk management take almost none.
