I’ve read a good handful of reddit stories and articles in the aftermath of big data breaches within companies. Of course, the experience differs from company to company but a lot of the stories I’ve read seems like whenever there is a data breach, it (could) seem like the end of the world to the company.
The jokes go around about the companies not investing enough into cybersecurity prevention and when a data breach does happen it ends up being a lot more costly in the long run. And of course, the Executives start pointing fingers at their Cybersecurity Department.
So for you, as a Cybersecurity Specialist, is your work mentality the “It’s not about IF your company will get hacked but WHEN?” Even if the company you work for doesn’t share this same mentality? Personally, I just see the “IF” mentality a hindering atmosphere to prevent you from being prepared in the “WHEN” scenario.
Bonus Question: When you experienced data breaches, was your career stability ever threatened?
