How do I tell if my AD domain is infected, and what is the best way to solve it?

My boss wants me to rebuild our entire Active Directory infrastructure including setting up user accounts and DNS from scratch because of a suspected infection in the server. He suspects the was a compromise because we found a suspicious account in AD with support incorrectly spelled.

1. What is the fastest way to repopulate all the data if I were to rebuild everything from scratch?

2. Assuming you are using the same Domain name and server address, is Windows smart enough to authenticate without noticing anything has changed?

No. The DomainSID will be different so everything from there down will be different. Every single security identifier will be different. Windows doesn’t work on the names it goes by SID.
