I’m currently an Infantry Sergeant working towards a BS in Networking and Cybersec w/ a minor in Forensics, and I’m on track to finish by the end of Fall 2022. I have no real work experience in the field and currently I have no certs. My contract with the Army ends 2025, so I don’t want to rush through a lot of certs only for them to be close to expiring when I’m getting out.
I want to transfer to the Army Cyber branch, hopefully commissioning as an Officer after getting a Graduate cert or Masters. The branch entry requirement is a BS, but I want to be firmly above the competition, at least in terms of Ed.
My question is, other than Certs, what ways can I validate experience and practical skill? I’m painfully aware that in the infosec career experience is the major factor for recruiters. Additionally, are there any resources you recommend for building said experience and skill? I simply cannot just get an entry level IT job right now.
