How important is your major?

I am a 2nd year student for an engineering degree in CIS but I hate it. I took a CCNA course and liked it. I am studying for the CCNA and I LOVE IT. My goal is to start off in networking then jump to a cybersec role. KY question is will my degree prohibit me from opportunities? I can switch to a cyber security degree however I would be out about $17k and I would be out an extra year of my life. Should I switch to cybersec or keep my degree and then get certifications and work my way up through that?

For someone right out of college that’s not going to matter much. Most jobs will take either CIS, MIS or Cyber. Experience is the real key factor in landing a new role so focus on building that.
