Thinking about making the jump from sysadmin to a more cybersecurity-related position, but I want to get an idea of the work-life balance before I start seriously looking.
Most any work you do that is interruptive is going to be off hours. A lot of the demand will depend on what industry you get a job in. Healthcare is 24/7, so you have very small windows. Also depends on your level…
Depends on your discipline, generally IR/Operations people get called.
It *really* depends on the place.
I’ve worked 55h weeks and been oncall (24 hours a day) for an entire week every other week. So 50% of my life oncall on top of unpaid OT. Not a healthy work environment, obviously :P
These days I work 40-45h per week and am oncall for three weeks per year.
Similar but not identical roles.
