How problematic is actual malware compared to paranoia thoughts? (Real vs Fictional Malware)

Most of the time people here come around talking about how they could have been hacked and usually it’s from paranoia from not really understanding how malware could potentially behave in reality.

“Maybe the malware messed with the router and now the signal is off by one bar.” or “This malware is so cunning it’s like it isn’t actually there but it’s hiding!”

Some people end up running all possible scanners and still feel like someone has invaded their devices, and it goes on for so long that I realized how some malware may have been blown out of proportion.

Can any experts on this field tell me how real malware actually behaved? Maybe from the simplest scripts to stuff like Ransomware? It could help people have some relief about their privacy and security, at least unless I’m wrong.
