I’m sharing my current position, and please, if you have suggestions, it would mean a lot to me to hear.
Till now, I used to think it’s easy, like doing bug bounty, finding vulnerabilities, earning money; it’s all cool stuff. But as I’m getting into the field, I’m really confused and looking at things from a practical perspective. I don’t know what to do anymore.
I’m a student doing B. Tech CSE in India from a Tier 3 college, about to complete my 3rd year (few months left), and placement season is coming up soon, in my final year. I’m not very significant in Cyber Security yet, and I’m not confident that I would be able to grab a job. I’m not even clear about the career paths in the field. Moreover, in India, Cyber Security doesn’t seem like a great thing to go into, based on my research.
So, I plan to prepare for GATE and get into a top college in India and pursue M. Tech with a specialization in Cyber Security. This way, I’ll get two years to polish my skills in the field and even get some companies to hire from College placement. But I’m not sure if this is worth playing a bet on; it would waste my two years for no reason.
I don’t see much scope in India. Not even many good colleges are offering courses in cybersecurity. Still, I’m passionate about it and want to pursue it, but I’m also afraid of job security. Please, I have explained my current situation and would like to hear suggestions on following it.
