I previously graduated with a Masters in Global Studies and landed a job working in international business / relations, but due to the pandemic staff were shed and I was unfortunately in the first batch to go.
Out of curiosity I applied to a Masters of Cyber Security at a decent university in my city, and was surprised to be accepted almost immediately. The Masters can run from 1-2 years depending on your study load, and assumes no prior knowledge of anything computing related such as programming or anything in the security sector. As far as I am aware, everyone in the course (my campus has a class size of about 35) were offered roles around a variety of organisations before even completing the degree.
I have an extremely basic knowledge of python but otherwise am quite proficient as a user and tinkerer with computers (built my own, have used most mainstream OS’s, installed Linux distros / VM’s) and am eager to get into things as soon as I can.
The Masters begins on March 8th, but I am keen to begin studying now so that I can be ahead of the curve and tackle any incoming problems I may have before they start affecting future grades.
What recommendations would you have to an incoming Cyber Security student with no prior experience in the field? Any learning resources you would recommend?
Any and all help is appreciated!
