Just landed a Jr role in security with a large company. The employment verification (3rd party) is having trouble verifying a random job I had years ago and asking me to send over a W2 (from IRS retrieval) and all paystubs as a PDF.
From a security perspective, isn’t emailing this type of information to a company from a personal account a concern? I’m wondering because of how email travels and personal emails usually don’t send out encrypted unless they do now?
Has anyone encountered this, and if so what are suggestions to get them over safely?
FWIW tried sending password protected items and tried walking through accessing them but they do not understand and want them as plain PDF attachments. Am I being overly cautious and would a simple ZIP file be fine?
If this is the wrong subreddit, sorry! I can post elsewhere, but not sure where, but also curious of an IT perspective on sending PII in general.
