Is a Cybersecurity major a good major for a cyber security career? If not what majors would be good for a career in cyber security

I’ve been told by some people over the years that a cyber security major isn’t actually a good idea for a cyber security degree and some people don’t always get hired due to that. If that is the case. What tech degrees or degrees in general would be a good choice for a career in cyber security? Personally i would prefer to do a major that goes into a little bit of everything whether it is cyber security, networking, cloud infrastructure, data science and programming. I was originally going to do cyber security but i thought that might be too easy and wanted to explore some of my options

If you want to know the technical side, I’d recommend getting a technical programming degree, focused on software or infrastructure or some of both. Then learn security. In other words, start by learning cyber at a professional level, even work for a couple years in that tech job, then tack on the security part. If you don’t become an expert at the cyber part, you’ll have a harder time becoming an expert at cybersecurity as a whole.

But if you don’t feel the need to be technical, doing a cyber degree in general could still treat you fairly well considering there’s a big job deficit. But you’ll still need to work hard to learn what you need to land a job either way. Maybe more so without the strong technical background.
