In my last two positions I’ve seen the CISOs a lot of their time across the following: helping out at charity events, posting random security information on twitter and LinkedIn, spending some of the working hours traveling between offices, going to lunches and dinners with some other directors etc, continuously grabbing a coffee and have a chat with directors etc – with most of this paid under company expenses. They actually seem fairly relaxed about 80% of the time and usually just wondering about the office and talking random crap with staff.
Then I see middle management frantically trying to fix problems, meet deadlines, create presentations, conduct tonne of analysis, while always running late for meetings. They looked stressed about 80% of the time and end up in the office for 12 hours a day.
Does it get easier when you’re at the top?
