Just got my first rejection for internship

I have 15+ years of IT work. I’m back at college going to finish my bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity. I have a sec+ good till 2023. I was told I had impressive background, but wasn’t a good fit. WTF. I’m not going to get discouraged, but damn what the fuck does these people want from me? CISSP ?Have a good day, everyone.

It is possible to be over experienced for a position. Perhaps they were looking for some one more raw with less experience. Don’t be discouraged, someone will value your experience.

Frame it in your mind this way: I’m happy this company recognized my value, potential and work ethic and realized early that it wasn’t a good fit for their company and the position. I should probably rework my resume, search for better fitting companies and aim for a higher position.

Don’t undervalue 15+ years of experience even if its not in the exact field the position requires, the boss of the unit may only have 5 years experience and his boss only 10. You would be a threat and probably be miserable there.

If you just need the experience (and some cash), try using freelancer websites to rack some up. Good luck hunting!
