As the title says it, I am looking for a career change. I’ve always been interested in the tech field and I am very tech savvy (self taught to build computers, set up home network, keep up with the latest tech news, etc. ). However, I am not sure how possible it’ll be given my situation. I’ve been in the communications, legislative and public affairs, and public relations field for the last decade, mainly in the public sector. I hate it for many reasons and that’s why I’m looking into the tech field, mainly cyber security. I have a MPA and a Bachelors in a comms. My dilemma is the pay cut. I make low six figures and can afford to take a cyber security job in the 90k range, which I’m sure is not a realistic salary to get started in this field. I don’t have any IT or help desk support experience. I was a technical writer for about 6 months and that’s pretty much it.

Am I better off sucking it up in my current field or is there a possibility to transition to cyber security without sacrificing too much pay?

I appreciate any insight or advice.
