I am just 2 classes away from my bachelor’s in IT with emphasis on cyber security. I have been in business finance (where I have my other degree) and have been doing quite well financially. I say this as a preface to my delima. I am struggling to find a position within technology that would not require a significant pay cut, which I’m unable to do right now.
I am really considering continuing to work towards a masters after I finish these last 2 classes but I’m trying to figure out whether or not the masters in cyber security or an MBA would be better.
Of course I could scrap the idea of spending more on school and focus on the certs so that I can gain “real” experience while working towards my certs.
I really enjoy the pentesting and red team side of things because of the challenge- but realistically, I’m not ready for that yet. I just don’t have the experience that employers require and I would need to spend a whole lot more time working on the stuff school doesn’t teach you.
Anyway, sorry for the long post but are there any opinions out there around a masters in CS, an MBA (with bachelor’s in IT w/emphasis on CS), or stop paying for school and hit the certs – until I can afford to take the leap from one career path to another.
