I studied for PenTest+ coming from a career in software, thinking I’d like to get a job as an analyst/engineer. I’ve quickly lost my resolve to work in a corporate setting. The consistent learning was the draw to make a switch and I have more to do. I also think there’s value in having software experience. Is there a place in the field beyond a typical corporate cyber role?
Open source tool development is probably not a career. Closed source tools is also a likely corporate pursuit.
Has anyone launched directly into a consulting role?
Is there a living to be made in bug bounties or research?
Appreciate your thoughts!
