Hi there – sorry if this is the wrong place for this :)
basically i want to set a webcam up at home and use some software, maybe like yawcam, to have some rudimentary surveillance solution in place so I can view the camera when I’m not home.
My question is, my home network is very basic at the moment, and a typical one at that (ISP router, no ports open etc.)
I want to understand the risks associated with opening up the port on my router that will allow remote access to the webpage generated by the webcam software. Providing I password protect the page using the software’s built in login feature, is there anything from a security point of view I need to be aware of?
I am nervous about having anything (even a login page) accessible by anybody anywhere but appreciate that is one of the risks, and just want to be sure there’s nothing more I can do from a security standpoint other than to password protect the page?
Thank you in advance :)
