Opinion – Should I block Roblox from my corporate network

Hey all, I’m the Senior Network Engineer for an organization and looking for advice. While looking through my firewall logs I found a night shift employee that’s spending most of their nights playing Roblox. I can’t blame them, they are basically a night shift security guard that’s probably bored out of their mind.

I personally don’t have an issue with third shift keeping themselves occupied as long as their manager is okay with it, but I’m not too familiar with the overall network security posture of Roblox. I’ve done some searching but can’t find much information yet. From a cybersecurity perspective, would you feel this is a safe app to allow on my network, or does it pose any vulnerability issues?

Thanks in advance.

It ultimately depends on your risk assessment and how secure you need your network to be, whether you have clean and dirty networks, etc.. Sight unseen, my default position is not to ask “is the app safe” but rather “is the app necessary?” If not, block it.

I think it poses the same risk as any other app on your network. There are add-ons in the game that could lead a user to an external site and possibly download something unwanted.
