Hi Cyber Security!
I have a BS in Computer Networks and Security (2016). I’ve been in the IT field for close to 11 years.
I started off with Geek Squad just checking people in learning about computer stuff in general. Moved to a more serious job for 4 years where I did a lot of hands on IT work, plus remote work. Also got my hands dirty in AD (creating OUs, creating users, managing group policies, etc.). The IT team was VERY small (less than 10) so I got to wear many hats. After those 4 years I moved to a University working directly for the Presidents Office supporting all the VPs, AVPs, Execs, etc. Very high profile, but since it was a Uni with a lot of IT staff, everything was VERY streamlined. Been here for 5 years and it’s time to move on. I’ve been mostly support desk stuff with exposure to everything else.
I am very much interested in Cyber (pen testing catches my eye), but am overwhelmed on where to start. I get paid a decent amount for what I do, and unfortunately can’t compromise that (single dad with a kid going to private school in the fall).
I’ve been on Indeed for a few days now and started off search for ‘entry level’ cyber jobs, but I’m not sure that’s the route I should be taking. I’m open to discussion and questions to get myself going. Motivated by a lot of posts on here, but just need a little more to steer me in the right direction.
