People used to say that putting Touch ID on external devices was impossible due to security reasons, let alone a wireless one. Yet the new iMac has Touch ID on a wireless keyboard. What did they do? Is it less secure now?

Everyone was claiming that the Mac would either have the Touch ID button ON the computer, on screen or it would be Face ID, but people agreed it would never be on an external device. Yet Apple did. How? Wasn’t the data not supposed to travel out of the computer?
