Professional Mistake?

So I made a transition into cyber security from network operations. I think being on a red team would be awesome but, being an analyst and doing nothing but paperwork is miserable work. Has anyone else transitioned from netops here to a cyber security role? What can an analyst role lead to in security because frankly I hate this new position. (This doesn’t mean I don’t do my best day in day out or that I’m not good at it) Also the boss is a micromanager and our SOC is outsourced. Which may be why I find it boring. TIA

All depends on what you enjoy. If penetration testing is your jam, then yea, an analyst position isn’t going to satisfy. Just like with blue team, it’s good to know what the other side does. So if you want to red team, it’s useful to know how a security analyst would notice you. Aside from that, make sure you have the cred’s to be on a red team (i.e. the OSCP … *not* the CEH).
