I’m brand spanking new to Cyber after randomly gaining interest in the field after learning about Pentesting.
My first step into Cyber was buying the CySA+ course on Comptia. I did so because of their brand recognition and the field overview (the basics in Cybersecurity) vs starting off with security+ like most people. I figure something more geared towards the field I want to get into is the best step vs a broad widely accepted cert that everyone has.
So I’m almost done with all the practice tests and flashcards with CySA+ and I feel highly confident I’m going to pass the exam. What I don’t feel confident in is what will be my next step after that.
I applied to a IT help desk position at Boeing as a way to possibly gain real world basic bare bones experience and I was going to stalk one of the Cybersecurity guys until they reach me their ways.
I don’t know if I should start diving into a cert for cloud security next since that’s where the industry looks like it’s heading in as well.
I do know just because there are way more defensive jobs out there than offensive, I abandoned going into the pentesting direction even though I genuinely like it more and that was the reason why I started this journey. I just want a higher chance of landing a job and going from there.
What is everyone’s thoughts? Where should I go next matter CySA+?
