Resources on how to securely setup a home private server.

I am a beginner in computer security, though not a beginner in CLI or programming. I am trying to learn more into securing my home server these days. Is there a good resource I can follow?

For context. My regular home server is just Ubuntu machine, connected to my WiFi network, and the WiFi is the one that gives internet access to that Ubuntu machine. The WiFi router is connected to the cable modem.

I am thinking of along the line of setting ssh credentials, setting up firewalls, port forwarding, etc. I don’t know what I don’t know and afraid of missing crucial steps.

If I setup that Ubuntu machine to be ssh enabled by my laptop connecting to the same WiFi network, would that mean that anyone on the internet worldwide can also access to that Ubuntu machine through the cable modem (lol sorry if this doesn’t make sense)?

Any resource would be appreciated.
