Hey guys.

I recently had multiple IP’s attack port 1900 on my laptop. In turn I blocked the port on my firewall (not my modem). I use xfinity and got one of their supplied modems (a mistake).

They state that port 1900 is closed however confusingly enough that was the port being exploited.

This quickly evolved into the modem IP address itself becoming the attacker and sending huge amounts of packets to multiple ports in what seemed to be a hardcore port scan on my laptop.

Meanwhile the entire time this is happening I’m changing my gateway IP, setting up VPN’s, and trying to throw off the attacker however I could.

No avail. As I watched this thing attacking ports it suddenly stopped sending red flags via my firewall.

Because of this I ran Rkill.exe only to find out that my hosts file had been edited by an external IP going to a random malicious site.

I unplugged my modem with the expectation that all items on the network are compromised.

How can I re-secure my modem and network so that I can get back to normal life?
