Should I just drop Avast?

I initially installed it to cover any gaps online. I’m pretty careful about sites I use and don’t do any torrenting, free but sketchy site use, or adult browsing, but I still felt better safe than sorry.

All was well at first, but I noticed more and more over time that programs would slow to a halt or go full not responding. When this would occur I’d check process monitor and Avast was always there at 90 to 100% use of different resources. Looking online it appears there are a few different ways Avast can not play nicely with your system and cause this. I followed the recommendations to repair or redo the installation to no avail.

Should I just give Avast the boot? Even their own tech help acknowledges this can happen and the recommended remedy above is it as far as fixes go. I’d be fine if it did all this active scanning only during inactive hours or after visiting a suspicious link, but the way it eats up resources at will is frustrating.

Thanks for any feedback.
