So I hear firmware viruses exist… what firmwares though?

I know a lot of hardware has firmware, some of them editable, but how could I find out which hardware on my PC has firmware on a flashable chip? Of course motherboard BIOS at the top of the list, but what else? The only things that have firmware that I’ve ever dealt with are BIOS updates and external devices like routers, never another component in my PC.

The way I figure it, if some virus can get past Windows and inject my firmware chip, then I should be able to use the same mechanics to back up the existing firmware and restore it if it ever gets infested (preferably on brand new unexposed hardware of course). I imagine this process varies vastly among devices so I don’t expect it to be easy, but I do want to start a collection of firmware images of all my hardware so any tips will be appreciated!
