I’m currently in between a rock and hard place… I’ll be turning 30 this year and work for a Big4 company doing taxes and to be frank I’m extremely unhappy with my work. Doing taxes was far from my first choice but after finishing my bachelors in Supply Chain Management and Minor in Information Systems I had the opportunity to do a MBA program (which was really cheap and only 1 year) in Taxation which then allowed me to land my current job. I’m thinking about making a complete 180 career change but I’m not sure what to do.
I was always really passionate about tech and networks and actually had a 4.0 in my minor which was IS. From what I’m reading most CyberSecurity jobs require years of experience and extensive knowledge (which I don’t mind learning because I actually enjoy it). I don’t know any coding but I’ve dabbled with several languages in the past and I know I am able to pick it up quite quickly. The part that’s throwing me off is starting off at entry level which will be a significant pay decrease from what I’m currently making. If I transition into supply chain field (mainly logistics) I wouldn’t have to go through the rigorous learning and skip the whole entry level stuff but I would prefer cybersecurity as I know I am capable of doing it. It’s just time and money isn’t on my side… has anyone else been in a similar position?
