Transitioning to Cybersecurity

Hey! I just wanted to see if I could get some career advice. I’ve been working as a QA engineer at a tech company for about a year and am looking to transfer into something I’m more passionate about. This is my first position out of university (CS degree). I’ve been genuinely interested in cybersec for the better part of the last year and have done a fair amount of research into the field. I was wondering if it’s realistic to pursue a transition to an entry level cybersec role after just a year of work and if so what would it require? I am considering grabbing Sec+/Net+ certs but having looked through study material, it does seem rather high level and I’m not sure if just having those would be enough to be make me a desirable candidate. I also looked at some decent boot camps but I don’t really want to shell out that kind of money after just getting a degree in CS. Any help is appreciated and many thanks for reading!

Volunteer with your security team to help any way you can and to gain some hands-on. Meanwhile, get some good starter certs as you suggest. See if you can volunteer to run IT/Security for a local church or non-profit or whatever. Learn, study, practice.
