Hi there, all.

Looking at replacing an aged firewall appliance for a client we picked up that’s currently authenticating VPN via AD. I’m not a cybersecurity expert but want to implement the best security possible. My thought is that having separate authentication methods for VPN (OpenVPN or Wireguard) and access to LAN based services is better. I do get that it’s more management, but at least without AD creds, initial access to internal hosts would be at least slowed down.

I really appreciate any advice and feedback.

It would be far better to implement MFA with AD auth instead of a separate set of credentials.
