What can I gather from this? Audio help

Now, to understand this, we have to go back 4 days, when my laptop was relatively fresh, last being factory reset in february. During this time, my headphones didn’t have a popping noise, up until the 7th of april. It was slow and unnoticeable, but whenever I would do stuff such as boot up my computer, there’d be a *pop*. the 9th to the 12th was a short lived round for my laptop, the laptop was then factory reset from the 9th. The popping noise became more persistent, happening sometimes whenever I would just not have any sound go through my headphones. Sometimes it would happen when I’m watching a movie, or listening to music, but it would be more unnoticeable. Yesterday I factory reset my laptop, and it wasn’t a USB reinstall of windows, it was a reinstall via cloud. The popping noise carried on, but I decided to do a test. I got my older 3 year old headphones, I plugged them in and wore them for a bit. I do not know if this is the definite answer, but I have heard significantly less popping. Is this just malware or is this a headphone problem?
