What is the difference between a bootable disc and an antivirus?

I notice that usually, rescue discs are for free, but antiviruses cost money. Do they scan all files the same? What’s the difference? Can you recommend a good rescue disc?

Also, I have this issue where when I search things in my browser, a new pop-up bar opens searching the terms in a different search engine. I tried checking settings and also scanning with multiple anti-viruses, but it couldn’t detect it.

Antivirus will provide real time protection. Rescue disk will provide not provide any protection, but it will do an offline scan and try to fix issues after you boot your computer with it. Rescue disk is for emergencies.

If you want a free antivirus, get Kaspersky AV Free or use Windows Defender.
