I am currently studying computer science at a UK university, and have applied to a number of placements. Unfortunately, the competition has been fierce, and so I haven’t managed to land a placement within cybersecurity specifically. However, I have been offered a job for a general IT potion (there won’t be much opportunity within the placement to get experience in security) as well as a position as a cloud engineer and a software engineer.
I am still applying to other placements, but in the case, I do not land a cyber placement would you be able to offer me advice on which of these other fields would be better to land a graduate security position. Or if it is really worth doing a placement if it’s not in security. As well as this, I am planning on studying for a cert and taking the exam during my placement, most likely the COMPTIA security+. How much would this help me land a graduate cyber position, and would it be worth it? Would it be worth perhaps getting a different cert?
Also, how much of an advantage will do a placement be in regards to landing a graduate job, even if it’s not in cyber?
Many thanks for all the help :)
