Which statement is correct – is MAC local/”global”?

Struggling to get this answer.

Network card has a MAC address. It is used to identify within local network when connecting to ..router (?).

Q: Does MAC address get “transferred” anywhere further, e.g. into the visited websites/anywhere NOT LOCAL such as the IP does?

MAC is a layer 2 function. To get to the internet you’re reliant on layer 3 routing. MACs remain local to your later 2 broadcast domain I believe, and anything out that is reliant on ARP tables and other protocols.

Internet correct me.
